Fife Council has welcomed the UK Government’s announcement of a £50 million Scotland Defence Growth Deal, which includes £5 million of investment for the Arrol Gibb Innovation Campus (AGIC) at Rosyth.
The funding will support the continued development of AGIC as a nationally significant centre for defence, manufacturing and engineering innovation, bringing together industry, academia, SMEs and the public sector to drive skills, productivity and high value job creation in Fife.
The Growth Deal also includes a wider package of investment in skills and innovation across Scotland, including proposals for new Defence Technical Excellence Colleges, reinforcing Scotland’s role as a leader in advanced manufacturing, maritime and emerging defence technologies.
Cllr Altany Craik, Spokesperson for Finance, Economy and Strategic Planning at Fife Council, said:
“This significant investment in the Arrol Gibb Innovation Campus at Rosyth is a strong endorsement of Fife’s growing role within Scotland’s defence, engineering and advanced manufacturing sectors.
“The development of AGIC as a hub for innovation and collaboration will help strengthen links between industry, academia and the public sector, supporting the development of new skills, driving productivity and creating high-value jobs for local people.
“We welcome the UK Government’s commitment through the Scotland Defence Growth Deal and look forward to continuing to work with partners to ensure Fife and our businesses are well positioned to benefit from the opportunities this investment will bring for our workforce, supply chain and wider economy.”
Fife Council has worked closely with partners to establish AGIC as a cornerstone of the region’s economic growth ambitions, and the announcement underlines Rosyth’s strategic importance to the UK’s defence and industrial future.
The Council looks forward to continuing to work with government, industry and skills partners to maximise the benefits of this investment for Fife’s communities, workforce and supply chain.
