Fife roastery joins a global community of businesses meeting high standards of social and environmental performance
Modern Standard Coffee, the speciality coffee roaster based on Cavendish Way in Glenrothes, has been certified as a B Corporation. The certification recognises businesses that meet verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.
Modern Standard became a certified B Corp on 20 May 2026. Its highest-scoring area in the assessment was Workers. That reflects a team that is paid at least the Living Wage, trained as baristas, offered SCA coffee education and given their birthday off.
The roaster pays coffee growers, on average, 40% above the Fairtrade minimum price. It is also a member of 1% for the Planet, is Climate Label certified and is recognised by Buy Women Built as a female-founded business.
A Fife business, through and through Modern Standard moved its roasting to Glenrothes in December 2019, into a 15,000 sq ft roastery where four Diedrich roasters now produce coffee for homes, cafés and businesses across Scotland, the UK and beyond.
Closer to home, Modern Standard supplies some of Fife's best-loved food businesses, including Balgove Larder, Fisher & Donaldson, Ardross Farm Shop and Baern café at Bowhouse, to name a few.
Founder Lynsey Harley grew up in Finglassie and went to Auchmuty High School. She is a Q Grader, a UK Cup Tasting Champion and a World Barista Championship judge.

Looking after the local area
Around the roastery, the team keeps bee hives and a wildflower meadow, grows vegetables in raised beds, plants trees with the John Muir Trust and joins regular beach cleans at Elie. Read more on the Modern Standard impact page.
Visit the roastery The roastery shop at 38 Cavendish Way, Glenrothes KY6 2SB is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, with free parking. Visitors can buy freshly roasted beans straight from the roaster, collect online orders or grab a £2 takeaway coffee.
