Fife College recently hosted a Hospitality Takeover Day at its new Campus in the City of Dunfermline, welcoming 75 pupils from five high schools across mid-Fife.
The participating schools were Queen Anne High School, Lochgelly High School, St Columba’s RC High School, Woodmill High School and Inverkeithing High School. The food and drink hospitality event was delivered in partnership with Fife Council’s Economic Development Team through its Culture of Enterprise programme, supporting the programme’s aim to connect young people with local industries and introduce them to future skills and career pathways within Fife.
The event provided pupils with a practical introduction to careers in hospitality, tourism and the wider visitor economy. Through a series of interactive workshops, pupils gained first-hand experience of the skills required in these growing sectors. Activities included hands-on sessions such as mocktail making and pizza preparation, alongside immersive VR experiences.
Pupils also took part in discussions exploring how strategic planning, local infrastructure investment and visitor attraction development can support sustainable tourism growth, while balancing environmental and social considerations. This approach reflects Fife Council’s wider commitment to sustainable economic development and workforce readiness across the region.
The Hospitality Takeover Day highlighted the importance of the hospitality and tourism sectors to Fife’s economy and provided pupils with valuable insight to help inform future education and career choices.
