Discover Cowdenbeath: McD’s Catering at the heart of the community
For many people in Cowdenbeath, McD’s Catering needs little introduction.
A favourite with Beath High School pupils, local residents and people working in the town, the family run business has become a familiar part of the community. But there is much more to McD’s than what you see behind the counter.
Run by Lewis McDonald and Louise Brown, the business combines years of hospitality experience with a proud family tradition. Lewis also continues the legacy of his late father, Nigel McDonald, who was well known locally for his baking, steak pies and outside catering.
Today, McD’s serves everything from breakfast rolls and hot lunches to family meals, afternoon teas, buffets and catering platters.
Its work also extends well beyond the shop. McD’s provides outside catering for Cowdenbeath Football Club and delivers breakfast, lunch and dinner catering at Fordell Firs.
The business has also built a reputation beyond Cowdenbeath, with customers travelling from Glasgow and Stirling to visit, particularly for its popular pies and home baking offerings.
Lewis said:
“Cowdenbeath has a lot to offer and there is a real sense of community here. We have a great mix of independent businesses, a busy High Street, the Racewall and football, so there is plenty for people to see and do.
“We’re proud that McD’s is well known in Cowdenbeath, but it’s also great to see people travelling from further afield to visit us. The support we get from the local community means a lot, and that sense of people supporting each other is one of the things that makes Cowdenbeath such a great place to be.”
McD’s is a great example of the businesses at the heart of Cowdenbeath, serving the local community while also giving people from across Fife another reason to discover the town.
