Welcome to Fife Celebrates Dunfermline’s Coach Friendly Accreditation

Coach Friendly - A National recognition highlights city’s commitment to sustainable group travel

Welcome to Fife is delighted to announce that Dunfermline has been awarded 'Coach Friendly' accreditation by the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT), becoming one of only three destinations in Scotland to receive this prestigious recognition. The award was presented during National Coach Week 2025 and highlights Dunfermline’s outstanding commitment to welcoming coach operators, their passengers, and drivers.

The accreditation marks a significant milestone in Fife’s drive to support sustainable and inclusive tourism, positioning Dunfermline as a key destination for group travel across the UK and beyond.

CPT Scotland Director Paul White said:

"Our Coach Friendly accreditation recognises destinations that truly value the contribution of coaches to local economies and the environment. We look forward to seeing even more visitors discover all that Dunfermline has to offer."

Donald Mackenzie, Clan Mackenzie Routes and Chair of Dunfermline and West Fife Tourism Association said:

“The coach sector delivers vital economic benefits to towns, cities and tourist destinations across Britain and just one additional coach every day can deliver £1 million of economic value annually to a destination according to independent research commissioned by the Confederation of Passenger Transport.

Achieving Coach Friendly status is therefore a fantastic milestone for Dunfermline and a real boost for local tourism. It recognises the efforts of businesses, attractions, and the wider community to make our city accessible and welcoming to coach groups. From our historic sites and green spaces to our vibrant cafes and shops, there’s so much for visitors to enjoy here. This accreditation will help put Dunfermline firmly on the map for group travel and support the continued growth of our visitor economy.”

Councillor James Calder, Convener of the City of Dunfermline Area Committee, added:

"We are absolutely delighted that Dunfermline has received Coach Friendly accreditation. This recognition reflects our commitment to welcoming visitors, supporting group travel, and ensuring coach operators have everything they need for a smooth and enjoyable visit.

As Scotland’s newest city and a place rich in heritage and culture, Dunfermline is perfectly placed to offer coach visitors a warm welcome and a memorable experience. We look

forward to continuing our work with local partners to make the city even more accessible and attractive to group travel."

The accreditation follows a concerted effort by Fife Council, transport providers, local businesses and attractions to improve the city’s coach facilities, access, and visitor experience. Dunfermline was also named one of the UK’s top 10 coach destinations by CPT during National Coach Week.

Coach tourism contributes an estimated £675 million annually to Scotland’s economy. As a low-carbon alternative to car and air travel, coach trips play a crucial role in sustainable tourism, reducing congestion and emissions while supporting high-street businesses and cultural venues.

This achievement supports Welcome to Fife’s broader goal of attracting more group tours to the region, reinforcing Fife’s reputation as a welcoming, accessible and rewarding place to visit.
