Outsource Laboratory Ltd, based in Eastfield Industrial Estate, Glenrothes, Fife, is a full-service testing facility specialising in Food Testing, Microbiological, Speciation, Allergens, GMO, Viral Pathogens. It is equipped to test using PCR, chromogenic dry plates, traditional plates, ELISA and lateral flow testing technologies.
The business was started by Duncan Perry, who has over 30 years’ experience in the Food and Drink industry and has held senior management roles in food testing laboratories and the whisky, fish, red meat, poultry and bakery sectors as well as a BRCGS auditor. As a relatively new business, it has only been in operation since 2024 but is already seeing substantial growth.
Duncan explained, “Our mission is to satisfy all testing needs in an efficient and accurate manner. Turnover of results upon receipt can be as low as 12 hours, allowing, in many cases, positive release. We pride ourselves that from the first contact to the analysis request and beyond, we are always available if a client needs advice. Our premium test is using the unique fingerprint of DNA and RNA, using the state-of-the-art polymerase chain reaction (PCR), which is based on DNA technology.”
Duncan runs the business with his wife, Fiona Galloway, who is responsible for business development and oversees strategic partnerships and clients throughout the industry. Since opening they have expanded and now employ a full-time microbiologist and part time driver and part time laboratory assistant.
A client of Business Gateway Fife from start-up, Duncan has recently been given advice and support from HR Business Adviser, Catherine Bartle. She commented, “They are one of the only food testing facilities in Fife and they can offer a highly personal service because they are a small lab. I was delighted to help secure them some SME Development Funding for Accreditation and SBA funding for their website and quality standards.”
