GOFIBRE FURTHER INVESTS IN FIFE’S DIGITAL FUTURE AS NEW FULL FIBRE NETWORK EXPANDS

InvestFife news

March 30, 2023
  • More than 12,000 residents and businesses across Cupar, Cardenden and Burntisland can now access the best type of digital connectivity available – full fibre – now that GoFibre’s broadband is now live

  • Construction of GoFibre’s network has also begun in Newport and Tayport, opening up full fibre broadband to around 3,400 additional premises

Even more residents and businesses across Fife are to benefit from future-proof digital connectivity as a new full fibre broadband network expands across the area to around 16,000 premises.

The construction of the network, provided by Scottish independent broadband builder and provider GoFibre, has progressed well, with more than 12,600 premises across Cupar, Cardenden and Burntisland able to sign up and instantly benefit from better connectivity speeds and overall reliability.

The network is set to expand further with construction getting underway in Newport and Tayport, which, when complete, will be able to connect approximately 3,400 more local residents and businesses to the power of full fibre.

GoFibre’s network expansion in Fife began last summer when construction got underway in Cardenden and Burntisland. Full fibre networks are considered the best type of connectivity, allowing communities to upload and download data with none of the disruption that ageing copper networks bring. However, it is only currently available to around 41% of Scottish residents.*

GoFibre’s network will help to tackle the digital divide across Scotland. Once in place, speeds of up to 10Gbps will be available, transforming the ability for Fife residents and businesses to work effectively from home, operate multiple devices simultaneously with no lag and download complete box sets and large files in just seconds.

Neil Conaghan, Chief Executive Officer, GoFibre said“It is with great pleasure that we announce that our full fibre broadband network is now live in Fife and available to the residents of Cupar, Cardenden and Burntisland while construction begins across Newport and Tayport.

“The expansion across Fife is a significant step forward in our aim to close the digital divide across rural areas with our network already bringing transformational speeds to residents and businesses.

“To any locals or businesses interested in learning more about how our network can benefit them, please do get in touch or register. We would like to thank everyone for their continued patience and support while we connect them to the benefits of full fibre.”

Cllr Altany Craik, Spokesperson for Finance, Economy & Strategic Planning at Fife Council said: “Fife Council is pleased to see Cupar, Cardenden and Burntisland residents being connected to full fibre with expansion across Newport and Tayport. We don’t underestimate the difference this will make to local residents.

“It’s good to see operators such as GoFibre deploy solutions in rural areas of Fife, that have otherwise proven difficult to get connected. I look forward to further investment and even better connectivity for all our communities across Fife.

Residents and businesses in areas that are ready for service can buy now or register for updates in the area by visiting www.gofibre.co.uk/register.
