Fife Council supports Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2026

InvestFife news

March 2, 2026

Fife Council is shining a spotlight on the power of apprenticeships to create careers, build businesses, grow the workforce and get real returns for the economy as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2026 (March 2-6).

The campaign, which this year has the theme ‘Working for Scotland’, highlights just how apprentices are working for the country’s employers, providing a pipeline of talent that is being supported and trained to meet their needs.

There are currently around 12,000 apprentice employers in Scotland, investing in over 40,000 FoundationModern and Graduate Apprentices.

For our part, Fife Council knows all too well the value of apprentices and see Scottish Apprenticeships as critical to growing and expanding the nation’s workforce while also giving people from all background the skills to thrive.

Apprenticeships play an important role in succession planning by providing upskilling opportunities to help address future skills gaps.

Councillor Altany Craik, Fife Council’s finance, economy and strategic planning spokesperson, said: “Apprentices have an essential part to play in helping businesses and the wider economy thrive - both now and in the years ahead. Showing our backing for apprenticeships has never mattered more.

“Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2026 gives us the chance to highlight the real benefits that apprenticeships bring.

“We remain dedicated to providing meaningful job and training opportunities for young people across Fife.

“It’s a great opportunity, and while apprentices will be expected to deliver high‑quality work, they will also receive guidance and support from skilled staff whose knowledge and experience will ensure every apprentice gains the strongest possible training.”

Apprenticeships have changed significantly over the years and the apprenticeship family has grown and now includes:

Foundation Apprenticeships – helping young people gain valuable, real-world work experience and access work-based learning while they are still at school.

Modern Apprenticeships – work-based training opportunities for new or existing employees, where individuals can work in paid jobs while working toward a qualification.

Graduate Apprenticeships – providing work-based learning opportunities up to Masters degree level for employees, combining academic knowledge with skills development to enable participants to become more effective and productive in the workplace.
