Balgove Larder in St Andrews has been crowned Champion Scottish Butcher at the prestigious Scottish Countryside Alliance Awards.
Balgove Larder’s renowned butchery, central to its popular farm shop, offers a wide selection of locally sourced pork, lamb, beef, and game. Skilled craft butchers ensure quality and care, using traditional methods and whole carcass butchery to deliver premium meat products to customers.
The Countryside Alliance Awards celebrate the best rural businesses across Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. These awards recognise businesses that go the extra mile for their customers and communities. Following public nominations and voting, Balgove Larder was named Scottish Butcher Champion at a ceremony hosted at the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.
As the regional winner, Balgove Larder will represent Scotland at the Grand Final in the House of Lords on 18th June, competing against other finalists from across the UK.
Speaking on the win, co-founder of Balgove Larder, Will Docker said:
“We’re thrilled beyond words and we owe it all to our customers for their support and votes. Not to mention our butchers for all their hard work, dedication, day in, day out - they’re award-winning stars! It’s a testament to the entire team at Balgove who play a huge part in showcasing our butchery through preparing, serving and beefing-up our butchery products. This award is such a pleasure to accept as the importance of Scottish sourcing and quality are paramount for us at Balgove.”
Careful sourcing is key at Balgove Larder with traditionally reared meat coming from its own farms as well as whole carcasses from other farms across Scotland.
As well as meat, the butchery produces hearty and healthy ready meals which are available at the counter and online shop. Honouring traditional whole carcass craft skills, it hosts regular butchery masterclasses for customers to learn how best to prepare and enjoy their favourite meats.
Founded in 2010, Balgove Larder has become a destination for locals and visitors alike, who are able to shop for artisanal Scottish food and drink from Fife and beyond, including seasonal produce direct from their own farms. By converting former farm buildings, Balgove Larder has developed The Farm Shop, The Steak Barn, The Butchery, The Garden Shed, The Homestore and The Café at the Strathtyrum Estate site.
