DPS GROUP PLAYS TO ITS STRENGTHS

The last year has been like no other for everyone during the global pandemic, and Fife-based electrical, instrumentation, control and compliance firm DPS Group has found it no different.

The onset of COVID-19 in March 2020 meant that operations had to change drastically in a short period. A management-level COVID response meeting was setup for every morning to discuss the latest health and safety guidelines and any client changes.

The aim was always to adapt quickly, identify areas where work could continue safely, and organise either support for those working from home or (in some cases) to furlough staff. A critical project throughout the pandemic has been work at Loch Katrine with Scottish Water. This required lighting and power cabling in the tunnels on-site, with staff having to work in close quarters. Of course, this did not fit with social distancing guidelines provided by the Scottish Government.

As such, DPS Group invested in specialised breathing apparatus to allow this vital work to support the national water infrastructure. Colin Millar, DPS Group Director, said: “We were keen to continue to support in key sectors, allow our colleagues to continue to work safely, and keep the show on the road. It cost roughly £1,200 per face mask, but it was necessary in the tunnel environment to provide fresh air to breathe. ”DPS Group adapted to the situation across various projects throughout 2020 including: remote Atex testing, a Temporary Motor Control build at Daldowie Waterworks, and creating an online support system for colleagues working from home.

As the business looks forward to 2021 and beyond, it is seeking to secure several large contracts with a number in the final stages of negotiation, alongside building on the current strong relationships with as with clients Colin admits that times have not been easy, but that DPS Group is well positioned to flourish again. He said: “We all know it's been tough, but we are confident that if we continue to deliver like we have for our current client base that we can only go from strength to strength.”
