Briggs Marine secures seven year contract with Forth Ports
Briggs Marine has been awarded a seven-year contract with leading UK Port Authority, Forth Ports Limited. The contract is for the maintenance of vital Aids to Navigation on the Forth and Tay Rivers and commenced on April 1st. Briggs Marine successfully retendered the work in early 2020. During the tendering process, Briggs Marine was selected due to their innovative solution which involves introducing telemetry lanterns and condition-based maintenance over the contract period, saving the client money and maximising full operational life of existing lanterns.
The contract will see Briggs Marine undertake the maintenance of 81 floating aids to navigation, two mooring buoys and 35 Fixed Aids to Navigation The work will involve recovering a substantial number of buoys from the water on a yearly basis, when all mooring materials will be calibrated. Worn materials will be renewed, buoys will be power washed to remove marine growth and lights and telemetry checked. Lighthouses and fixed Aids to Navigation will also be visited and maintained regularly. Briggs Marine will utilise their vessel, the MV Cameron as well as a selection of other Company vessels as required.
