The thirteenth annual Meet the Buyer took place earlier this month bringing together local authorities, government agencies and contractors to hear about upcoming work in Scotland’s public sector, worth £13.3 billion annually.
Meet the Buyer, which was held virtually and hosted by Supplier Development Programme and partnered by the Scottish Government and Scotland Excel, attracted 728 attendees (exhibitors and suppliers). Over 500 of those were micro, small and medium-sized organisations from across Scotland, which logged in to 457 live exhibition meetings, and 95 exhibition live chats. In addition, there were over 4,600 individual visits to exhibitions, over 1,000 brochure downloads and 435 networking connections made in the Meeting Hub. Fife Council’s Procurement Team hosted 45 sessions with suppliers.
Pamela Stevenson, Service Manager, Economic Development, Business and Employability at Fife Council, commented:
“Meet the Buyer gave suppliers unprecedented access to buyers and decision makers from across the public and private sectors. Businesses had the chance to introduce their products and services, talk to the key contacts and find out more about what tenders and project buyers have in the pipeline.
“Early indications show the event posed opportunities for those participating local businesses, raising profiles, making key introductions and finding out about supply chain opportunities.”
The event also included live Q&A sessions, virtual visits to exhibition stands, access to important tender information, as well as the chance to speak directly to some of the exhibitors, speakers, buyers, and decision makers, including Fife Council Procurement Team and Scotland Excel, at the event.
Jennifer Payne, Development Officer - Marketing and Events, Supplier Development Programme, added:
“No business is ever too small to engage with the public sector, and year after year, Meet the Buyer offers an unparalleled free opportunity to spend one day to give an elevator pitch to Scotland’s numerous local authorities, government agencies and primary contractors.
“After Meet the Buyer, micro, small and medium-sized businesses, and especially supported businesses and third sector organisations, are encouraged to register with the Supplier Development Programme, a free service specifically designed to help them with the tendering process, and get ‘tender ready’ to bid for future contracting opportunities.
“Fife businesses that may have missed this year’s opportunity are invited to save the date for next year’s national Meet the Buyer, to be held as an in-person event at the EICC in Edinburgh on 17 May 2023.”
