Taking place in the town of St Andrews from 10th – 17th July 2022, The Open is golf’s original championship. Played since 1860 on iconic links golf courses, it is the sport’s most international major championship with qualifying events on every continent. For one week each year, the pursuit of the famous Claret Jug is the focus of the sporting world, followed globally by millions of fans.
The 150th Open is a special milestone in the history of the Championship and is set to be the biggest ever hosted, attracting 290,000 spectators over the week.
In addition, The Open Camping Village, which will make it’s first debut in St Andrews this year, has allowed more young people to get up close to the world’s greatest golfers in their quest to lift the Claret Jug.
In 2022, The Open will be played at the oldest and most iconic golf course in the world, the Old Course, making the 30th time that the Championship has taken place in St Andrews.
Staged by The R&A, The Open delivers an annual economic benefit of up to £100 million to its host region, while the Championship’s commercial success supports the development of golf worldwide.
The 150th Open brings great opportunities for the town of St Andrews and wider Fife, including:
