GRAIN & SUSTAIN LANDS SIGNIFICANT CONTRACT

InvestFife news

May 13, 2022
Sectors:

A Fife-based business has secured a sizeable contract, generated 40 new suppliers, which will support its expansion plans, and forged a new relationship, which will result in a trade mission to Barbados in December, all whilst exhibiting at Scotland’s Speciality Food Show in March 2022.

Grain & Sustain, an award-winning Zero Waste retailer, which has stores in Burntisland, St Monans and Kirkcaldy, generated the new business at the three-day trade show, supported by Fife Council Economic Development’s Trade Development Programme.

It created interest from 40 new suppliers, enabling Grain & Sustain to move forward with the expansion of its ethical Scottish food and drink range. And, it has established a new relationship with the Ministry of Tourism for Barbados, which culminated in an invitation to join the Scottish Trade Mission delegation to Barbados in December.

Grain & Sustain also secured a significant contract to curate and deliver Christmas hampers to a new client based in Edinburgh, which will also generate wholesale contracts for many of its small business suppliers, several of which are Fife-based, through additional sales.

Louise Humpington, owner of Grain & Sustain, commented:

“This was the first trade show Grain & Sustain has attended, and I am absolutely thrilled with the outcome! The Fife Council Economic Development and Business Gateway Fife teams worked tirelessly to support us. They were efficient, encouraging, and supportive and I cannot recommend them enough.

“The ‘Taste of Fife’ showcase was a star of the show and elicited much admiration from other regions of Scotland, who really appreciated its cohesion and collaborative approach. The opportunities this experience has generated could be transformative for Grain & Sustain, and I am so thankful to have been involved.”

Grain & Sustain was not the only Fife business to reap the rewards of exhibiting. East Neuk Salt Co gained ten new stockists with orders placed at the event, as well as exciting collaboration plans, whilst Tayport Distillery made plans to join forces with independent retailers for the gifting sector.

The Buffalo Farm also shone, exhibiting at Scotland’s Speciality Food Show for the first time. Its Scottish Buffalo Mozzarella won the best product of the day in the Chilled and Frozen Category.

In total 12 of Fife’s food and drink businesses exhibited as part of InvestFife’s ‘Tastes of Fife’ stand and generated almost 200 meaningful enquiries during the three-day event. The exhibition area was supported by Fife Council Economic Development’s Trade Development Programme and was a showcase for Fife’s eclectic mix of food and drink producers.

Pamela Stevenson, Service Manager, Economic Development, Business & Employability at Fife Council, commented:

“Fife has a rich heritage of producing top quality food and drink, which are enjoyed nationally and indeed, globally. So, for those buyers at Scotland’s Speciality Food Show, they were spoilt for choice when they met with Fife’s delegation of food and drink businesses.

“To hear of the success these businesses have had, and the significant number of enquiries received, reinforces the importance of exhibitions, trade shows and events, as a means of generating new business, making contacts, and promoting products and services to a target audience.”

The Buffalo Farm, The Little Herb Farm (including The Whisky Sauce Co), Rumburra, Tayport Distillery, The Roasting Project, Pittenweem Preserves, The Wee Tea Company, Grain & Sustain, Ecobean Coffee Roasters, East Neuk Salt Company, Almaz Foods and Growers Garden all exhibited on InvestFife’s ‘Taste of Fife’ exhibition area, which was supported by Fife Council Economic Development’s Trade Development Programme.
