InvestFife & Stewart Miller Consultancy have developed the Alibaba.com Trade Programme, offering Fife businesses the opportunity to access the world’s biggest B-to-B e-commerce platform. Through our Trade Development Programme we are able to provide funding to support Fife Businesses to participate in the programme.

Alibaba.com is the world’s biggest B-to-B e-commerce platform. The organisation is actively recruiting companies for the platform, with a key focus in Europe because of global demand, with the region’s reputation for established brands and quality goods and services.

The programme will include;

• Information session to raise awareness of the sector opportunities and the programme
• Learning Journey to Alibaba.com HQ – the first delegation of Scottish companies invited to Alibaba.com European HQ in Amsterdam will take place on the 1st and 2nd of February 2024. The key itinerary will  include;
  1. Visit to the Alibaba.com European office in Amsterdam and meet with senior personnel
  2. Presentations from Alibaba.com on the benefits of the platform. There will also be representatives of Dutch companies present, who have benefitted from the platform, and will be there as real case studies
  3. One-to-one’s organised between Fife companies and Alibaba.com
• Research Work – Alibaba.com agents will instigate a free and full Discovery Phase to evaluate the suitability of participants company products on the platform. Feedback will be provided on the expected opportunities, which will include detailed research and a follow-up call to discuss the opportunity with participants
• Action Plan – a tailored action plan will be developed for each participant to identify key actions for the Alibaba.com opportunity and identify any ongoing international trade training/advice requirements

Programme Criteria

• Turnover of at least £250k with ambition to scale up
• Embrace digital (e.g. company website with e-commerce facility, investing in SEO/promotion, and undertaking social media activity or ambition to do so)
• Some experience of exporting or ambition to do so
