CuanTec longlisted for 2025 Food Planet Prize.
The business is delighted to announce that it has been longlisted for its project to upcycle shrimp byproduct into valuable products for use in biomedical, water purification, agriscience and paper pulping products.
The Curt Bergfors annual Food Planet prize puts a focus on future impact and aims to support projects that can make a significant difference. This year's longlist contains initiatives from 23 countries across six continents—from Uganda to the UK, from China to Colombia.
CuanTec is determined to make a positive environmental and societal impact by manufacturing very high quality, very high specification Chitosan from natural and sustainable sources, which could otherwise just be burnt or sent to landfill. Our Chitosan is a natural biopolymer, which is fully biodegradable and ocean-friendly. With its many therapeutic and physicochemical attributes, Chitosan is increasingly finding favour across the world as a replacement for fossil-fuel based polymers across multiple product areas- such as biomedical, water purification, agri-science and paper pulping. CuanTec upcycles a byproduct from one industry (crustacean shells) into a valuable product for other uses, where lives can be saved, where water can be purified and where crop growth can be enhanced with reduced or zero environmental impact.
Rupert Maitland-Titterton, CEO, remarked “On behalf of the whole team at CuanTec, whose driving force for our work is to use our skills and energies to help the environment, I am delighted that we have been longlisted for this prestigious prize, which is about making a real difference. To be longlisted and in the company of other such innovative impact-projects and inspiring people is a reward in itself.”
The Food Planet Prize receives around 1000 nominations every year and it is the largest environmental award.
